Arvada Fire is an ISO 1 and accredited District
You should feel some comfort in knowing that Arvada Fire is an ISO 1 and accredited organization and has leadership, apparatus, water, and training to address all fire risks. However, there is always and opportunity to improve. Please see the update below on wildland efforts underway.
The Colorado State Legislature is actively working on legislation that will impact the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) mapping across the state, including areas like Arvada.
Senate Bill 25-142: Changes to Wildfire Resiliency Code Board
Introduced on February 5, 2025, Senate Bill 25-142 (SB25-142) proposes significant changes to the process of defining and mapping the WUI. https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb25-142
• Statewide Definition of WUI: The bill aims to establish a statutory definition of the WUI, replacing the previous definition set by the Wildfire Resiliency Code Board. https://dfpc.colorado.gov/WRCB
• County Responsibilities: Each county is required to create a WUI map that aligns with the new definition and submit it to the Wildfire Resiliency Code Board by July 1, 2026. https://www.jeffco.us/…/Community-Wildfire-Protection…
• Adoption of Codes and Standards: The board is tasked with adopting minimum codes and standards related to wildfire resiliency no later than January 1, 2027. Local governing bodies will then have one year to adopt these codes.
For Arvada, located within Jefferson County, this means that the county will need to develop and submit an updated WUI map that includes Arvada’s applicable areas. Once the state adopts the new codes and standards, Arvada will have a year to implement them locally.
Local Initiatives in #arvada
In parallel with state efforts, Arvada is proactively addressing wildfire risks:
• Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP): Arvada is collaborating with the Arvada Fire Protection District to develop a CWPP. This plan aims to align the city’s open space maintenance and mowing practices with wildfire mitigation recommendations. https://cwpp.us/o/arvada_colorado/home
• Wildfire Safety Resources: The Arvada Fire Protection District provides resources like the WUI Mitigation Checklist to assist residents in reducing wildfire risks around their properties.
